Make a small square that still reads clearly

A 300×300 canvas suits a small avatar, catalogue thumbnail or compact icon. The default Fit mode preserves the source proportions and includes the whole image, adding padding where necessary. Choose Fill for a full-bleed square, or Stretch only when distortion is intentional.

Get a better result

Small text can become unreadable at 300 pixels. Crop around a clear subject and check the downloaded file at its actual size. Circular avatar displays hide the square corners, so keep the important part away from the edges.

A quick workflow

  1. Choose a clear original; the output starts at 300 by 300 pixels.
  2. Use Fit for complete content or Fill and focus controls for a tighter square.
  3. Process and check the thumbnail at native size before downloading.

When this tool helps

Prepare compact profile images and thumbnail grids. If a site requires a larger original, use its stated dimensions rather than assuming every avatar service accepts 300×300.

A FEW GOOD ANSWERS

Before you hit download.

Simple tools. Clear expectations.

Will both sides be exactly 300 pixels?

Yes, unless you deliberately edit the dimensions or enable aspect lock and change the canvas. Fit preserves source proportions inside the exact square.

Why are there borders?

Fit includes the complete image inside a differently shaped canvas. Fill removes borders by cropping; Stretch removes them by distorting proportions.

Does 300×300 guarantee a small byte count?

No. Dimensions and file size are different. Set a target in JPG/WebP if the destination also limits bytes.
