Compose a portrait post on a 4:5 canvas

A 1080×1350 image gives a portrait composition more vertical space than a square. This preset is a practical 4:5 working canvas for an Instagram post, not a promise about every display surface. Fit is selected initially so a landscape original is not cropped without your choice.

Get a better result

Choose Fill when your subject can tolerate cropping, then move the focus to protect faces and lettering. Leave space around important elements because the destination may show another preview crop. A story or reel cover needs a different tall canvas.

A quick workflow

  1. Choose an original and review the 1080×1350 dimensions.
  2. Select Fit or a deliberate Fill crop and inspect the subject’s placement.
  3. Download and review the image again in the intended Instagram composer.

When this tool helps

Prepare portrait feed artwork or a consistent set of carousel images. Use the story preset for a 9:16 working canvas and the square preset when the design is intended to be 1:1.

A FEW GOOD ANSWERS

Before you hit download.

Simple tools. Clear expectations.

Is this the same shape as a story?

No. This canvas is 4:5. The story working preset is 1080×1920, or 9:16.

Will Instagram show the whole file everywhere?

Not necessarily. Feed, grid and other previews can crop differently and may change. Check the actual publishing preview.

Can all carousel images use this size?

You can batch-export a shared 1080×1350 canvas, but review each crop and the destination’s current carousel behavior.
