Keep a decoded HEIC photo as a PNG
PNG is useful when your next editing step needs a widely readable raster file without adding JPEG compression artifacts. This tool genuinely decodes a HEIC or HEIF picture and writes PNG pixels. Lossless PNG encoding preserves the decoded raster, but it cannot undo compression already present in the original HEIC.
Get a better result
Expect a photographic PNG to be considerably larger than its HEIC source. The PNG encoder has no lossy quality slider, so reduce dimensions if size is a problem or switch to JPG for a smaller shareable copy. HDR, embedded metadata and auxiliary image information are not retained by this canvas workflow.
A quick workflow
- Choose the HEIC photo and wait for the local decoder to prepare a preview.
- Keep PNG selected and review dimensions; use Fit if changing the canvas shape.
- Download the PNG and retain the HEIC master for future editing.
When this tool helps
Create an intermediate for an editor that cannot open HEIC, or hand off a raster photo when PNG is specifically required. PNG does not automatically remove a photographed background or make it transparent.
